CAMBRIDGE – Today, the Healey-Driscoll Administration and Massachusetts Technology Collaborative’s (MassTech) Center for Advanced Manufacturing (CAM) celebrated 10 years of the Massachusetts Manufacturing Innovation Initiative (M2I2) during an event at The Engine in Cambridge. M2I2 supports manufacturers by bridging the gap between innovation and commercialization of hardtech products. Since its inception in 2016, the program has awarded more than $121 million, supported the creation of more than 1,300 jobs, and helped train thousands of students and workers in the manufacturing sector.
In addition to marking the milestone, CAM also recognized the latest round of M2I2 grant recipients announced in October 2025 – 13 manufacturers that received $7,329,798 in grant awards to create 180 jobs in communities across the state.
“M2I2 helps Massachusetts manufacturers turn ideas into products, facilities and jobs,” said Economic Development Secretary Eric Paley. “These investments ensure that innovation can scale right here in Massachusetts, strengthening our advanced manufacturing economy and supporting communities across the Commonwealth.”
The M2I2 program leverages federal and private funding to purchase capital or operational items for manufacturing projects. The program also builds unique partnerships between companies, universities and accelerators to encourage collaboration that will create real-world innovations.
“At its core, M2I2 leverages state resources to promote business growth and provide innovators with the tools and capital needed to scale their ideas,” said MassTech CEO Carolyn Kirk. “For 10 years, the program has helped hundreds of companies invest in cutting-edge ideas and bring their innovations to market. Those investments have strengthened Massachusetts’ position as a leader in advanced manufacturing and continued to create jobs across the sector.”
“M2I2 has helped Massachusetts innovators move projects from prototype to production and created over 1,000 hardtech jobs,” said CAM Director Lily Fitzgerald. “By supporting manufacturers with funding and partnerships, Massachusetts is building a more resilient, competitive manufacturing ecosystem.”
